History of the
Aylesbury and District Province

Part One    1922 - 1971

FINDING OUT THE HISTORY OF THE AYLESBURY AND DISTRICT PROVINCE IS A PROJECT I STARTED MID OCTOBER 2003. BY THE MIDDLE OF NOVEMBER 2003 I WAS FINDING SO MUCH INFORMATION I DECIDED TO SPLIT WHAT I HAD FOUND INTO TWO PAGES. BOTH PAGES WILL CONSTANTLY CHANGE AS I RECEIVE MORE INFORMATION FROM LODGE SECRETARIES, LONG SERVING MEMBERS OF THE PROVINCE AND GRAND LODGE. I AM GRATEFUL TO EVERYONE WHO HAS SUPPLIED ME WITH DETAILS OF LODGES AS WELL AS THE NAMES OF PPGP'S, PPEC, PPKC AND PPROH ASSY. IF ANY OTHER BROTHER/S CAN HELP, COULD THEY PLEASE CONTACT ME VIA THE E-MAIL ADDRESS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE. THANKING YOU IN ANTICIPATION, TERENCE F. W. SMITH, ROH, PPGP, PPKC, PPEC,.

Some items at the moment are to say the least sketchy, as more details become available I will be able to bring the history of the Aylesbury and District Province up to date. I feel it is better to list incomplete items and then fill in the details rather than not to list them and forget about them. At the moment I am keeping everything in Lodge order rather than date order until I can get sufficient information to do so.

The Dispensation for the opening of the Aylesbury and District Examining Council was issued on the 13th December 1921 (10 days before the Dispensation for the opening of the PGL was signed) The meetings where originally held on the 2nd Monday of each month, at The Red Lion Hotel, Kingsbury Square, Aylesbury, although the first meeting (Inauguration) of the Examining Council was held on Sunday 1st January 1922. The 1st President was Primo Ashdown, the 1st Vice President was Primo C. Moorecroft, the 1st Secretary was Primo T. Yates. These days Examining Council is held Bimonthly on the odd months after PGL meetings.

The issuing of the Dispensation for the opening of The Aylesbury and District Provincial Grand Lodge was approved at the December 1921 meeting of Grand Lodge in Bradford and was signed on Friday 23rd December 1921. Unfortunately the Inauguration date has worn off of the Warrant, this would have been on either the 13th or 20th April 1941.
